Flashback Friday: The First Installment

I'm trying something new. Something I've found on many other blogs. It's not really the "Flashback" part as much as the appropriate alliteration with Friday. I thought providing content generated at an earlier time may be interesting to some. I was hesitant in putting in material from my past because I don't want any of you readers to think i'm loco. I'm not, I promise. If you know me, then I don't care what you say about that last statement, haha.

Anyways, I wrote this short poem a few years ago and stumbled upon it today while looking at the unfinished novel I had been writing at the time (Entitled - The Bend In Your Eyes). This novel proved to be very strange and can I say clairvoyant (yea, I'm not crazy)? There were several things I wrote about that happened to the protagonist that actually happened to me. These things happened anywhere from a week to a month later. This kinda freaked me out and I decided to stop writing. This is why I'm hesitant to post any of this material from the unfinished novel. I also don't want to post it because the three protagonists are one person, or should say, in the head of one person. Shit, I just gave away the surprise. Looks like I won't be finishing that novel. Actually, the hit television show Fringe aired an episode a year after I stopped writing and proved to be about 95% similar to my writings. That was another weird coincidence. Or was it? Does coincidence exist?

Without further adoo, is that how it's spelled? The short prologue to Chapter 4 of The Bend In Your Eyes.

"An easiness filled through empitness.
Canon ease embraces great peace
erased from the time of moments grace.
Relax and dream of life intrinsic
While writing to maintain sanity.
Moderation impedes succession.

My highway of love exists untouched.
Truth brings freedumb and ignorant guilt
To every codependent nothing.
Thoughts create love abolishing ego
While altering the pace of evil.
My ego is dead with longing love."
                                                      (2008?)

What was I thinking? O yea, you need hands to highlight the white. Because I don't want computer's from the future to read this mumbo jumbo. I'm not loony.

Entangled: Part Deux (pgs. 101-200)

Are you ready for the second installment of Entangled? The most popular post on this blog is the first Entangled, one that briefly covered the first 100 pages. Upon seeing this I thought continuing the installments would be helpful, even for those still considering on picking this book up (and you should). I do not plan on revealing any major events (trust me, what I am writing down below is not major as compared to what else happens) that have occurred in these pages, but, I will make you aware of the magnitude of such events. Here goes...

What about Ria (22,000 B.C.)?
Last time, I left off with the idea of The Uglies (Neanderthals) and The Clan (Homosapiens) fighting. Ria was in the middle, seeing how she had just sealed a friendship with a prominent Ugly. This friendship was extended when Ria stayed overnight with hundreds of Uglies and took part in their bizarre, yet, extremely fascinating ritual. A ritual that they only perform on a 'certain occasion'. What is most interesting is that the object used in the ritual is called 'Demon's Penis' by The Clan and 'Little Teachers' by The Uglies. Would Ria see this object as 'Demon's Penis' or 'Little Teachers'? Is there an allusion to present day society (another insert of Graham's early archaeological work into narrative)?

After the ritual was over, the Uglies and Ria decide to travel and warn The Clan of impending doom, and become friends among other things. I won't go into details about what is causing this 'Doom', but, it is another allusion into Graham's previous archaeological work. This 'Doom' is witnessed almost immediately by the moving Ugly army and Ria. What happens next is one event that consumes multiple chapters and many pages and proves to be a crucial learning experience for Ria; a self-actualization occurs.

Here's Leoni (Present Day California)
Was Leoni admitted to a mental institution? What did her parents have to say? Needless to say, Leoni was injected, intramuscularly, with a large dose of horse tranquilizer. She slipped into an unconscious sleep and continued with her 'special trip' mentioned in the first Entangled installment. This 'special trip' takes up multiple chapters and pages to complete, but proves to be exhilarating and such that you're begging for more. I suspect this 'special trip' will continue in later chapters. After she wakes up, she is rescued! Rescued from what? Where? Well, you'll have to read to find out the specifics. Her rescuers have an interesting side job that they want Leoni to take part in for 4 weeks. This 'job' is the same as undertaken in reality by Dr. Rick Strassman in the early 1990's (published in 2001 under the title, DMT: The Spirit Molecule). This research, conducted by Dr. Strassman, was radical and was approved and supported by the DEA and federal government (after years trying to gain permission). Since Graham is incorporating this idea into Entangled, this book just reached a higher level of intensity (with 300 pages left!).

I'll now introduce Jack. Of this aspect of Jack, I only know of his human name. The other aspect of Jack is the 'Doom' mentioned earlier. How does the name SULPA sound to you? Benevolent? I picture snakes and a monster similar to Voldemort when I hear of a name like SULPA. Anyways, Ria and Leoni have some very interesting initial encounters with Jack/SULPA. Ria's encounters are not as violent as Leoni's encounters and may exist at a different level of reality. Does this mean Ria's aren't real for some reason, if they exist in a different level of reality? Are Leoni's not real if they exist in a different level of reality? I'll let you read to figure out that mystery. I predict that SULPA will be the force that entangles these two protagonists. When will they meet? What will they say to each other? There's even one more question I have after reading that I won't post because it gives away A LOT of information (I think...).

Conclusion
There is definitely a lot going on right now and it has me on the edge of my seat. My dad started reading this novel two days ago and is 100 pages shy of finishing (Total of 435 pages). He comes home from work and reads this novel for hours, before finally getting some much need shut-eye.

Finally, this book may not find favor by what I will call a "close-minded scientist/conservative". It will take a great deal of open-mindedness to consider the radical hypotheses hidden within this novel. It is my opinion that proper science is supported with skepticism until empirical evidence reduces that skepticism. There is empirical evidence for the hypotheses put forth, but, there are multiple interpretations on what this evidence entails. Imagine Ancient Aliens on the History channel, or the Nostradamus Effect on the History channel (not the same information, but equally as provocative and more empirically supported). Maybe Graham Hancock is wrong. Maybe he is loony. Maybe there is someone else out there with the right explanation to these perplexing mysteries, or maybe we'll never know. But, there is also the possibility that Graham is correct in many respects. If this is true, it changes modern archaeological theory and our view of our 'primitive' ancestors. This is a big deal and a substantial amount of skepticism is warranted.

(Warning: This novel contains a plethora of grotesque violence, unmentioned in my ramblings, and SHOULD NOT be read by children, under ANY circumstance. Now, depending on your imagination, proceed with discretion)

Let's Talk About Feelings, or is it just more Music?

(Disclaimer: Before reading note that, Entire albums are Capitalized and individual songs are e-talicizzzzed)

We all listen to music and each of us has our own tastes. In my opinion, lyrics in music can often describe your own perspective on life pretty well. They may not be perfect, but, they can save you a lot of time 'self-realizing'. I just realized how much of a Love Story this is. Chosen words, carefully thought, in a sequence of perfect syllabic rhyme and accompanied by a barrage of noise can often motivate the soul in innumerable ways. The feeling of chills throughout your body, accompanied by thought reminding you of your true self, is no coincidence. Or is it? Music is connected, but are you connected to music?

If I decide to say to you, "Let's Talk About Feelings", and you reply, "After You My Friend", then Everything Turns Grey. I'll go first. I feel that we are all Messengers, "one thing is true: nothing is sacred when everyone is talking and nobody is listening". Do I, "throw the matter into blue skies turning to grey?"

Joey Cape - The Kids are all Wrong / May 16 / Who We ve Become

The Kids Are All Wrong. The Kids Are All Wrong. "It's all I ever really learned". Then you reply, "You should really Change Despair. When did you learn this?" I may remember and say, "It was just another Saturday, May 16."

"This is going nowhere, slow. (Love Story)"

My last 20 songs of the year... The one's I play over and over and over...

Here are a few tracks. I either just found these gems, or just now realized their great potential. My favorite on this list is probably 'A More Perfect Union', partly because of its amazing intro (I always want to restart the song and listen to it again and again and again...) and partly due to its intoxicating guitar riffs. 'Bushwick Blues' is a close second, having an incredible melody that makes me think it would be perfect for a 80's movie montage. I tried to provide links so that you could download/listen to them on this blog and hopefully that works and you can. Feel free to leave any comments! (Format: Song - Artist, Listen below Format)

Entangled: A Glimpse into the first 100 pages. (Novel by Graham Hancock)

First thing is first, who exactly is Graham Hancock? Yes, he is the author of Entangled, released this October in the U.S., but he is also the author of four other, very different, novels. These novels include: The Sign and the Seal, Fingerprints of the Gods, and Supernatural:Meetings With the Ancient Teachers of Mankind (about 700 pages!!). These novels, along with a few unmentioned, have been written over the course of twenty years and Graham has established himself as a premier renegade of classical archaelogical theory. For instance, Supernatural puts forth a hypothesis that our cave-dwelling ancestors ate mushrooms regularly, traveled to the "spirit world" under their influence, and lastly transcribed their experiences in the form of cave art (found today on several continents). There is solid, and I mean rock solid, evidence supporting this claim - a claim that goes against modern archaelogical theory regarding our "primitive" ancestors. Further, Graham supposes in Supernatural that experiences gained from these mushrooms may have created language/thought (whichever comes first is still hotly debated).

You may now be wondering why I am babbling about Supernatural when this blog is meant to cover the first 100 pages of his new novel Entangled. Well there are two reasons. First, I wanted to expose you to the type of material this renegade scientist has been working with for over twenty years. This material, published in several highly regarded books is not to be taken lightly, or a matter of truth, but to be looked upon with caution. Second, the novel Entangled incorporates ideas from Graham's previous work, including what I have spoken regarding Supernatural, into narrative (rather than scientific/present-the-evidence) form. This may be the most important point regarding the novel Entangled. After reading 100 pages, I believe that you do NOT need to have a previous knowledge of his work to understand his radical hypotheses. They are laid out clearly between chapters - in the experiences of teenage girl Ria (living in 22,000 B.C.) and in the experiences of teenage girl Leoni (living in present day California).

Ria is part of The Clan, a group of our earliest homosapien ancestors, living amongst The Uglies (Neanderthals). It is clear from the beginning that several members of The Clan do not like The Uglies, or their existence for that matter. The Clan has their reasons for slaughter, which The Uglies do not understand (for reasons that will become clear if you read the novel). The Uglies have their reasons for peace (which will also become clear if you read the novel). Both of these hyphenated reasons are very important because they relate back to Graham's previous published scientific work. Ria is caught in-between. Things happen to Ria, The Clan, and The Uglies that prove to be most interesting as the pages keep turning. Actually, as I read, I was struck by how similar the suspense was to Dan Brown's classics, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol. Each chapter of Entangled is about 2-4 pages, like Browns' works, and this kind of makes you feel accomplished after an hour of reading and ten chapters down.

Leoni lives in present day Malibu, California, and is the daughter of wealthy parents. So wealthy, in fact, that she makes instant headlines in the nation's top entertainment news (The National Enquirer, etc...). The reasons behind why she made the news sets up the motivation for Leoni for the rest of the novel. Actually, her special trip while lying on the hospital operating table is what sets up the motivation for Leoni for the rest of the novel. Who knew she would have been committed to a mental institution for saying such things. I did! Once again, the suspense of the story of Leoni (seperate from Ria) is similar to that of Browns' works. You are left hanging at the end of each chapter with a surprise you never imagined, a surprise that once you see you have to know what happens next.

Finally, each chapter of the first 100 pages is devoted entirely to either Ria or Leoni. I'm not sure if this is going to change as the novel progresses, but my opinion is that is will and that is why the novel is entitled Entangled. What does Entangled mean? How will these characters become entangled, if they do? Can they? (I mean, one lives in 22,000 B.C. and the other in present day Malibu... but it is a novel and the author has freedom). Anyways, I received this novel for Christmas and believe it is definately as good of quality, if not better, than The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol.

note: I first heard of Entangled this October while researching David Wilcock's Divine Cosmos website (found here http://www.divinecosmos.com/).

Holiday Humor... Not for the faint of heart, or children for that matter!

Christmas and comedy, need I say more? Actually, I won't provide any perspectives on Christmas because that's your time and depending on your beliefs, well depending... Here's some comedy to test the boundaries of those beliefs. There are links to stand-up about Christmas, Jesus, and the 10 Commandments. In unrelated news, the last stand-up is on ectasy, . Enjoy!

Lewis Black on Christmas...

The late, great Sam Kinison on Jesus...

Again, the late, great George Carlin on the 10 Commandments...

Unrelated to Christmas, or at least I hope. Why you shouldn't take TWO pills of ectasy...

The pot-o-gold... after months and months of searching

I won't go into detail about why each song was chosen for this list, quite frankly I can't remember. What I do remember, however, is that I still listen to each of these songs frequently, much more than other songs I've found from this satiable year. A few became instant classics (i.e. Ambling Alp, Solitude is Bliss, Bloodbuzz Ohio), which may be due to the fact they were released early in the year and prepped the summer drives/karaoke. Others will indefinitely become instant classics to me (i.e. Skinny Love, Spanish Sahara, Put The Days Away).
I do recognize that I may have missed a few classics in eyes other than my own. This is to be expected. Anyways, enjoy what the year has brought and look forward to a new year of optimism (no matter how the economy looks)!!

Note: Broken Bells (4 times), The National (3 times), The Local Natives (4 times)... Also, not a lot of Rap on the list because there could be a separate Top 50 for Rap that would be just as good as this list.
